Egg Candler

I am the grateful recipient of  a new egg candler, so now I don’t have to hold the flashlight with one hand and make a gasket on top with the other…leaving very few hands to hold the egg on top. It is just a simple design made with scraps, and just big enough to hold an old light fixture that was in the electrical treasure box. The lid is hinged with a nail for easy bulb changes, the cord is off some long discarded appliance (all cords get saved here, put in the treasure box…and very often utilized) and the bulb is from some old light fixtures given to us by a friend. It is fun to see what these old things eventually become! The plan was for it to have a switch attached to the outside, but it turned out to be a bad switch, and surprisingly, it was the only one on the premises. I had to promise several times to unplug it every time I use it so that it won’t start a fire. Apparently some people know me too well. I can’t wait each night for dark, so I can check on all my chicks. Handy men are, well, self-explanatory.
