We have gotten several things done over the last week and weekend, but it still feels so slow. Mom and I finished the battens on the end of the house on Thursday, so finally that is done and can be stained. This past Saturday, it was really cold, and we all had colds, but there is no rest for the weary so we worked from daylight until well past dark and got all the boards, logs and trim pieces on the west end and all the newest logs and boards treated with two coats of Timbor and antifreeze. We then started on the back kitchen window. We set out determined to work until it was finished, but just shy of our goal we ran into a board that wasn’t getting a proper fit. We had been working by lamplight for quite a while at this point and we were very cold and feeling bad, so with reluctance, we covered the hole and finished after church on Sunday. Here it is installed…the back window is at a slightly higher level than the one on the side. This was so that an oven would fit under the back window, but I didn’t want the window over the sink to be any higher than it had to be. M and M spent a few hours removing the lath from the burned out house for us to reuse as lath under the board and batten on the back of the new house. It will put to use some pressure treated boards that would’ve been wasted otherwise, and we wanted them off the walls anyway for that future project.
Everything looks great! I hope you guys get better fast. One day soon you will step back from the chaos and enjoy your new home.
