Cabin – 5 Months Into Construction – part 2

This is the exterior within 2 weeks. The next week they finished the roof and we were officially dried in, although, we still didn’t have windows.

By fall we had started putting the logs up. We started on the front and went as far as we could. The front of the house is on the edge of a very steep grade. We then started on the side and decided that scaffolding was what we really needed. We looked at renting some, but because of how long we would be working, it wasn’t an option. We decided to purchase used scaffolding locally off of Craig’s list. It has been a very good investment.

Once we got the logs all the way up the west side, which faces the entrance, we put up the board and batten on the eaves. We used poplar for the boards and sweet gum for the battens.

This, to me, is the most beautiful part of the whole house.
