A while back, Roy painted a coating on the roof of the container to reduce the heat inside. It brought the temperature down about 10 degrees, but when it’s over 100 degrees outside, it’s still unbearably hot, especially on bright days, and when we are running the dryer.
This past weekend, he put the aluminet on the roof, by floating it on some 4×4’s that he used to create a frame around the edge. He also painted them with the white reflective coating. He stapled the aluminet to the frame on the shady side of the container, and hung it over the edge on the sunny side. To keep this side down, he weighted the edge with small bundles of pebbles spaced about every 8 feet.
This brought the temperature down even more, and once we insulate the ceiling inside, I think it will be very comfortable and easy to heat and cool. Roy plans to do the same with the camper as soon as he can, so the air conditioner won’t have to work so hard (and cost so much).
