A Practical Splurge

Yesterday, we went to the capital city to scour antique shops for wardrobes/armoires. We aren’t building closets in the bedrooms, so Roy came up with the brilliant idea of buying each girl an antique wardrobe that would be theirs to keep when they leave home…sort of a twist on the hope chest. We have found just a few here in the vicinity, so we thought we try someplace bigger. Suprisingly, there were none in the big antique/flea malls. However, we did each find a few less expensive treasures…a Bing Crosby Christmas album for the oldest girl, 4 little cookie cutters shaped like each of the card suits for the middle girl, a beautiful necklace ($2.00!) for the youngest, a little stack of blue melamine dessert bowls for Mom, and a big blue Pyrex mixing bowl for me! Of course, mine was the most practical (therefore not technically a splurge) because I actually needed a big mixing bowl. I am very excited about being able to mix something without stirring very slowly to avoid going over the edge of the bowl.
